David DeAngelo – On Being a Man (video)

Here’s a 96-minute video from a David DeAngelo (pen name) DVD: On being a man who naturally attracts women. DeAngelo is popular in the Internet dating community for his “cocky & funny” pickup techniques. Once students go deeper, they are hit here with the ugly truth: you’re probably still a boy. DeAngelo begins by identifying hesitation, which in a boy comes from insecurity but in a man comes from reflection.

Part 1 of 7 on being a man

This training came from the realization of an attendee of his mastery series that many of the men didn’t actually know what it means to be a man. Like talking to a fish about water. In this case, it’s talking to a boy in an adult male’s body.

The inability to attract women is simply a symptom of the invisible barrier to being a man that most men sense.

This 4 DVD series can be purchased here for $150: http://www.doubleyourdating.com/OnBeingAMan
(Disclaimer: I haven’t watched the whole series, worked with this trainer, nor can I attest to its functionality.)

Robert Bly is an American poet, author, and considered a leader of a large men’s movement centered in mythology and poetry of the unique experience of men.

Poetry is one of the most ancient forms of transferring wisdom because it’s style of language reaches the unconscious mind where true understanding happens. The listener is allowed to have their own experience of truth by looking at the human experience themselves.

Bly was interviewed by Bill Moyers a few months before Bly’s famous Iron John: A Book About Men was published. The release of the following video launched the book and what the media called a “men’s movement”.

As Bly says in the interview, this is not about a reaction to the women’s movement of the 1960s. He is exploring something men lost 160 years ago with the beginning of the Industrial Revolution when, for the first time in history, men went to factories rather than working along side their families and communities.

Optimist/Pessimist

It seems the answer to this eternal question men have contemplated, optimism or pessimism, is whisky.

Men experience emptiness inside. It is the eternal vastness of the universe where inspiration can rush in. If we don’t embrace this emptiness, it becomes loneliness. Advertisers discovered this hole from Sigmund Freud’s work and filled it with their products.

Miller beer wants you to “Man Up”?

I was out for lunch today, looked up and saw this billboard. The suggestion is, if you drink this beer, you’ll be a great quarterback, a championship man. If you don’t drink it, you have no taste and you aren’t a man. Hmmm…

The essential man is sourced in something incredibly deeper that his next buzz. A corporation can’t tell him who he is.

Essential Man launches!

The Vastness of the Universe

Essential-Man.com launched today, October 5th, 2010 @ 12:42am.

Men in America, and possibly in other countries, are facing decline of purpose. As women are increasingly doing a wonderful job of stepping into their power, and taking on what once were thought of as masculine roles (provider, leader, father), men are increasingly facing existential questions. These existential questions (Who am I?, Why am I here?) are natural, yet rather than being answered internally, corporations, politicians, media, and others use this space to fill it with their products and ideologies.

Men have gone through many phases. Renaissance Man, for example. Today, it seems to me men are in the “Fashion Man” phase. Men are caught up in the external world of trends. It’s the next profit motive, derivative scheme, clothing line, or product to consume. Men have gotten caught up in the external, the world of fashion, so much that they’ll even wear the sports jersey of another man in order to be another man of value. As if who he is inside is not enough. This is NOT the essential man. It is the accidental man, the expendible man.

Essential Man is the next phase of evolution where men as sourced in something vast and indescribable. It’s not a return to the past and some glamorized fashion statement of what men were, their clothes or possessions, or according to films and ad campaigns. It’s not a return to roles! It is stepping forward into the 21st Century Man and his unique, individual contribution to the world from his deepest essence of truth.

He is both coming from the deepest essence of what it means to be a man and is essential to the evolution of the planet. And partner with women in the 21st Century awakening of the human spirit from centuries of unconsciousness.
